WARNING: THE ANIME REVIEW WILL MAKE YOU QUESTION YOUR OWN SANITY
What is up people! BlackStar here. Welcome to my Thursday Anime Review! I know, it's Friday. I was suppose to do this yesterday, but my mom made me run a 5K that I did not sign up for. Anyway, it's time for this week's anime review! This week, I'm doing an anime that started it all! Yes, I'm doing the anime that ignited the fire in my soul for my love for anime back when I was eight years old! This week, we will be doing...
Now then, the actual plot for this story isn't truly explained until episode 5 of 6 of the series. Yeah, that's Gainax for you. I'll try to explain it to the best of my ability.
The anime takes place in an unnamed town where, and I quote, "nothing interesting ever happens." Apparently, no one ever pays attention to the giant iron in the middle of the city. I have taken the privilege of naming the city "Steam City" because of the giant iron releasing steam once every our, covering the city. Anyway, the series opens up with the main protaganist Naota Nandaba, complain about how boring the city is. (Again, there's a f**king iron in the middle of the city.) He's hanging out with his brother's ex-girlfriend Mamimi Samejima. They're just hanging out until...
BAM! He's hit by the Vespa of Haruko Haruhara. (Try saying that three times fast). She'll be more important later. Afterwards, she hits Naota in his forehead with her bass guitar. Yeah. That's all I can reveal for now. On with the Evaluation!
Now then, the entire plot of the show revolves around Naota and is crammed within the 6 episode length of the series. It's actually pretty interesting in a way. I mean, this was GAINAX's first anime, and they did a pretty good job.
Overall Grade: C
Naota Nandaba- Main protaganist of FLCL. He looks up to his baseball star of a brother, taking care of Mamimi while he's away (only later to find out that his brother has an american girlfriend). After being hit by Haruko's bass guitar, the N.O. Channel was opened up in his mind, allowing giant mechanical robots to come through and battle on Earth. (Yes. It makes THAT much since.)
Mamimi Samejima- Ex-girlfriend to Naota's older brother. She takes out her desires on Naoto, showing interest in him for a while. She's a talented photographer and worships Lord Canti, God of Fire!
Overall Grade: B
All of the music was written and composed by The Pillows, a band which made it big in K-Pop after the anime came out. The music fits the all around craziness of show, both in composer and aspect. Overall Grade: A
THE ANIME'S CONCLUSION
Now then, the ending for the anime isn't bad, but it isn't perfect. I mean, it's the ending that the anime deserved. I'm not going to spoil anything. But let's just say that it will leave you wanting more. It's a great show with a flaw every now and again, but the show as a whole is a great show. Heck, it's what got me into anime in the first place! It deserves more praise! Overall grade: C
PERSONAL ENJOYMENT AND FINAL GRADE
Overall, FLCL or Fooly Cooly is a good anime. Scratch that. It's an AWESOME anime. With a perfect blend of insanity, fighting action, and slight romance, I give Fooly Cooly 8.5 out of 10. That's comes out to a B+. Congrats! Well, that's all for this time! See you guys next week for another anime review. This is BlackStar, logging off.
